There are no academic or English language proficiency requirements.

  • ​​Preparatory year (‘Prep’): Children are eligible to attend full-time Prep from the beginning of the school year in which they will reach five years of age on or before 30 June.

  • Year 1: Children are eligible to attend Year 1 from the beginning of the school year in which they will be at least six years of age on or before 30 June.

  • Years 2–6: Applicants must demonstrate they passed all core subjects in their previous two years of schooling. There are no English language proficiency requirements.

Junior High School

​School enrolment dates

Applicants can apply to commence an EQI course in Term 1, 2, 3 or 4 of the school year, however, the following restrictions apply:

  • Term 4 of Year 6 (primary school)

  • Term 1 only of Year 11 for high school students wishing to graduate from senior high school

  • Overseas students applying for the High school (study abroad) and High school (regional study abroad) courses may not commence in Term 3 and/or 4 of Year 12.

5. Academic Pathway to Further Study

Most students receive a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) when they graduate and most students who receive a QCE receive an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). Students may then continue to their next level of study at one of the below pathways:

If you didn't study the required subjects, your results from other subjects, including vocational education and training, can contribute to your selection rank. Some schools offer university pathway programs where Year 11 and 12 students can earn tertiary course credit and access university facilities. Queensland boasts world-class universities, making it a hub for education and research.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)
