1. IH Brisbane - ALS Young Learners Programme Overview
The following table provides an overview of the IH Brisbane - ALS Young Learners Programme, presenting key information for young adventurers aged 7 to 10.
Program Overview | Description |
Program Name | Young Learners Programme |
Age | 7 to 10 years old ** Student must stay with and be escorted to/from school by a Parent or Parent appointed Chaperone. ** July intake may accept seniors over 10 years old. |
Program Duration | 4 week bookings |
Course Structure | Over 20 hrs study per week
Providing both a change of pace but also incorporating key elements of Total Physical Response learning and teaching, this section is designed to help our young learners connect new language with actions, and get up and enjoy themselves.
Using both process writing and study and replace techniques, we will help build our young leaners up to being able to produce a piece of work they can be proud of. We will use a wide variety of stimuli; from pictures and media, to shared experiences, to make this memorable and engaging.
Structured reading activities provide a great way to expand young leaners vocabulary and work out meaning, but also to show that reading can be a source of great enjoyment. Texts are chosen of interest to the individual, and the academic staff will support them all the way.
Using a mix of songs and video, our young learners will discover more about Australia, gain strategies to help them understand more easily in the future and be able to sing-a-long to some classic Australian songs.
In this section, we will use young learners imaginations and love of creating things to engage them more in the days and weeks topics. Using a variety of art and science based techniques, students will learn to follow instructions, solve problems together and build on the language that they have learnt. |
